Sailing the Sea of Cortez Or – “Be Prepared”

www.wallstpick.com

There we were, sailing the waters of Mexico, on a mission to leave life behind.  We had dropped anchor in La Paz, and loaded up on essential supplies for the next leg of our trip, north to places where computers and the internet were mere folklore.

After making the essential supply run, cases of beer, tequila, avocados and a few whisky chasers we were off.  One of our compatriots, brought along a radio-phone-just in case we had an emergency.  I pondered whether if it was possible to have tequila delivered?

As we sailed away, or rather consumed our way up the passage we entertained ourselves by listening to old World War I songs, reading a few books, and occasionally looking at the newspapers which protected our tequila from meeting an untimely demise.

While opening another batch of tequila from our cache, I couldn’t help but notice that it had been wrapped in the business section of a well known newspaper.  In my alcohol induced state I started to look at some of the stock quotations.

My eyes locked on one in particular, one I had paid pennies for, but was now hovering around $6.  I screamed – I was rich!! But all of a sudden my euphoria turned to horror – I must sell – but no internet, no cell phone!!

From the deck my drunken sea-mate yelled “Try the radio-phone”.  I called my broker, sold the stock, and continued to drink.

The moral of this story.  Keep informed.  A shareholder has a responsibility to himself to make constant inquiries about his investment.

One never knows, one could be at sea, and an investment could take a run.  So as the Boy Scouts say, always “Be Prepared”

“John Taylor you are a Scam Artist!!”  Those words were spoken to me by an ex friend.

So how did all this come about? Well some years ago I was handed the reins of a private company, we will call it “M5”, with the intention that it eventually go public. After all I was an experienced, educated, self titled genius. Now I have survived jungle treks, sailed the seven seas, even experienced the gourmet taste of stewed “Dog” in Asia – but nothing prepared me for the experience I was to embark on.

First step is to raise a little seed money from my close friends and business associates. Hey John, I hear you are doing a deal, here is some money. Son, is this a good deal? Darling I love you, how about making me some money? So the seed money is collected, a project is started. Lawyers, Market Makers Accountants and a host of others are hired to perform their magic. I am assured by everyone, I retained, it will take 6-8 months, to list.

Two years later, hundreds of thousands of dollars spent, the overhead continues and the bank account is dry. My advisors tell me only 4-5 weeks left and M5 will be listed. So with much reluctance I raise more seed monies. “John this is my line of credit”! “John this my retirement fund”! John this is all I have”!

Three months later still not listed, Murphy’s law the phone rings “you scammed me!”, you “knew it would not go public!”, “you are a liar!”, “my lawyer told me you were a bad person”!!

How does one explain the following to your investors?
Financial crisis!
My partners went bankrupt!
The lawyer retired;

You suddenly hear from those that gave their precious few remaining dollars to you for M5, so it would list. They start calling you, emailing you.  Where’s my money? Where are my shares?  Why isn’t M5 public?  And finally you Scammed Me!!

What do I as a promoter do? They won’t accept any explanation! – John Taylor pays some monies back, retains a new lawyer, raises more seed and continues the quest of a listing.

Or did John Taylor move to China, buy a Junk, a blender, and a case of Tequila?

To be continued!!

The investing “A bottle of tequila and a pizza”

pennystock-promoter.com

I am now being pushed, by my publisher, who still hasn’t paid me, to write on the comforts of investing in the Penny stock Market, I warmed up by reading the daily horror stories from the “Nationals” and the odd verbage from a West Coast regional rag writer. From there I decided to situate myself in an environment which would do this topic justice. I immediately sequestered a table in a local bar, ordered a pitcher of Margaritas, a pepperoni pizza and took in the sound of the “Doors” and the “Who” blasting from the loudspeaker system. I was ready to write.

Bungee jumping without a cord quickly comes to mind as I write this article. I have read the “Spams”, the “Touts”, My Space, Twitter, and the odd paper solicitation. I am familiar with astounding predictions of doubling ones investment in a day – ( 1 cent to 2 cents a share, a 100% gain), or of amazing assay results, and miracle cures. I have seen and read it all. Am I experienced, of course, I lost my retirement funds, hoping some NEW found formula would be a quick fix for HIV.

Lets get back on track here. I am a firm believer in equalization. For every loser there is a winner and vice versa.

We NEVER hear of the Merits of Penny stocks. All we ever read about are scams, prison terms, and/or conspiracies.

Penny stocks are an essential part of the business world. They provide the vehicle for small businesses to grow. Penny Stocks are the result of the entreprenevial skills of promoters. Let’s give penny stocks and promoters a break! A promoter not only must create and run a business but also must create and establish a Penny stocks listing, and run the public side of the company.  Two jobs not one. My hat accordingly is off to Penny stocks and Penny stock promoters.

The resource industry of the world is incubated by Penny Stocks, the new Inventions, Ideas and creativity of the world is funded mostly through Penny stocks. The majority of these stocks increase in value. We need Penny Stocks. The government wants to regulate Penny Stocks more, and turn the vice on their diminishing life support system. This my friend, is crazy. Let them breathe! Let them flourish! We need an economy to grow from the ground up, not the top down!!

As usual I have used up my word allotment and only managed to touch on the topic® perhaps I will be asked to write a book (Hint) so yes I say, be careful, – but invest in the Penny Stock Market. So as I finish the first picture of Margaritas, and hear Jim Morrison bellow out “People are Strange” I realize, Jim was right!!!

How I chose my wife Or choosing a lawyer

November 11, 2009 beststockreports Leave a comment

This column is written for a penny stock new service. My random thoughts on investing, caveat emptor, and other miscellaneous gonzo gook has prompted many people to ask me to write a series of “Choosing columns”.  So here is the first in a series.

The title came to my mind while drinking a bottle of Spanish red and listening to the MC5. Choosing a lawyer is a difficult topic to write on. The world of investing in the Penny stock market is much a kin to getting married. You have to locate a suitable woman/or man and then embark on one of life’s most interesting journeys. But I can attest that you may need a lawyer from time to time in pursuing these ridiculous missions. So choosing a penny stock is much like choosing a partner. At some point we will probably need to involve the services of a lawyer.

How to choose a partner, for the sake of clarity, I will use, as my examples, choosing a woman? You bisexual, gays or tri-sexual (try anything), please don’t be offended.

Best way to locate a woman or lawyer is through personal referrals – friends – business referrals or relatives. (I say relative with some degree of apprehension) The problem is you must really study the referral source – people usually refer you to women/ or lawyers that they like (lets say they had an experience with) or in some cases used them for their own purposes.

Well you must look closely at the referral source – time of referral and place of referral. Over a drink at 2:00am, – ha ha a great place to talk women and lawyers– my answer don’t listen!

Use the personal referral as a base reference – from there do your own searches on locating a woman/lawyer, or you may end up dropping enough coin to run a small country in Central America.

Why not use the internet?  It’s interesting to see lots of Pay for introduction dating services – yet lawyer referral systems are free. I have no comment!

So we have now after a journey through referrals, introduction/referral services and the internet and have now found the name of an interesting target, woman or lawyer.

Next step, find out more about your target. Where is he or she from? Where were they educated? ( If educated where did they finished in the class?  In the case of lawyers, please note over 90% finished in the top 10% of their class). Do they wear an electronic monitoring device? Do they have the right experience for the job? You wouldn’t hire F. Lee Bailey to give advice on an investment into a 10 cent stock touting a new gold mine in Inner Mongolia, likewise you wouldn’t date, a well, I will leave that alone! In choosing a lawyer or woman remember looks are not everything. (well in some cases that is not true)

So we have now chosen a lawyer or in my case a woman – but we are not Obama and Michelle – we are human – so the woman was not right – for me- the advice my lawyer gave me with respect to my Inner Mongolian investment was wrong and as a result I now own a part of small noodle shop on the Inner Mongolian/Chinese border, along with 5000 other pasta eaters.

What’s the answer – Now this is amazing – the woman turned out to be well, we will say it was not a compatible relationship, the lawyer was taking kick backs from the gold company – the answer – now, get this CHOOSE ANOTHER LAWYER!!!

My advice – move to China and open a noodle shop!

Balloon Power -penny stock story

November 6, 2009 beststockreports 1 comment
penny stock

pennystock-promoter.com

The entire world watched as the saga of the “balloon boy” unfolded. The CNN’s, BBC’s, Newspapers, Radio and every other reputable news media covered the horror of a child soaring through the sky perilously close to meeting an untimely fate.

In the end it was a HOAX. The entire world had been duped by an egocentrically, uneducated, self-centered nut case, or was this man a “nutcase”.

One could argue he is a genius – (perverted and twisted though). Using common household items he pieced together a balloon, then using his telephone, he alerted the world of the horror which he had secretly witnessed, hoping to reap big rewards out of his orchestrated drama.

Amazing!! So imagine this, if the balloon boy’s father son combo can motivate the entire world media at a nominal cost – How for gods sake can a simple person, say like me, have even a remote chance to survive the grossly over financed, marketing campaigns orchestrated by media heavyweights to dupe you into buying a share in a company?

You and I have absolutely no chance. Ask the clients of Bernie Madoff, the purchasers of BRE-X etc – what was that! It was the sound of you losing your shorts.

Was there a JFK conspiracy? Are there UFOs?  Are there alien’s amongst us?  Is the world flat? I don’t know, but some people think all the aforementioned are true.

With all of his, hey I have a new word, “Balloon Power”. What can a naïve plebe like me do to pop the Balloon?

Simple rule – check the story out Before you report it. We could give you many reasons why the media totally screwed up the Balloon boy story – but we won’t – because I can’t afford to pay for lawyers to defend my allegations.

Let’s get back on track – the only way to beat Balloon Power is to pop it. So when you want to invest in a stock – be wary of Balloon Power.

So how do we fight this new phenomena called Balloon Power. Simple, use the grey matter between your ears before you use your hands to write a cheque.

When a stock is touted to you – don’t believe what you read, go beyond the story, and do some research.

Read the company website, press releases, annual reports, filings, articles, hire experts, accountants, lawyers, financial advisors, look at track record, and the experience of management then make your own decision based on what you have learned.

Do you really think the media did any research at all when the Balloon boy was allegedly soaring with the birds?

So I say help the word stamp out Balloon Power – Pop the bubble and start by doing a little homework before jumping into that hot new stuck and soaring into financial oblivion.

Promoters

PROMOTER WAR

www.pennystock-promoters.com

Do I really want to write about them? Well I get paid to!!

A definition of promoter is a person who initiates, puts together, or assists in the funding and subsequent organization of a company.

Well bless Hunter Thompson’s soul – just writing the definition down and understanding it brings my blood pressure up, sweat to my brow and pains down my left side.

Well I am being paid, so all of the symptoms mentioned above seem to have now vanished.

Originally when I heard a promoter was involved in a company I had visions of bungee jumping with the cord breaking or my grade 3 teacher running her – nails over the chalk board – but after a little education (2 degrees) a little experience in the market (good and bad – mostly bad) I am now prepared to endorse – ulp – in general terms promoters!!

My point is now we need promoters more than ever – we need to initiate new businesses – and create a grassroots incubator of new products and ideas. Who can do this –“Promoters”. The entrepreneur who risks his or her reputation and wealth to piece together a business, is, in a way “the business creator” – not to be confused with GOD – (for those religions buffs)

Penny stocks are the promoters minor leagues – if they are good they will go to the bigs, the major markets!! The world markets.

Without promoters – No Apple, No Starbucks, No Adams Golf, why No even MacDonald’s, No Beatles, yes you get it now.

For every MADOFF, there are 10 good honest people who promote – put their heart and soul on the line everyday and create exciting new businesses and wealth.

Unfortunate there is “fear and loathing” in the world of promoters – it is the weaker, kinkier, dare I say – BAD ones, that get the most ink, or attention. But look at the majority of people – yes we are mostly a good race (except for the lawyers) and accordingly most of the promoters are good.

The media – they like bad people, broken hearts, scandals, to them, good news is no news.

But the majority of promoters well they are not a necessarily evil – they are the “straw that stirs the business drink” (thanks Reggie)

So next time a promoter touts his business or stock – listen – chances are he or she is honestly pursuing a dream, which if real, will be their reward to share with you – the investor.

Now can I have my cheque?

Investing—-Nothing is Real—Who is Mr. “X”

October 27, 2009 beststockreports 1 comment

      mrxgirl

How do you explain to your children that someone who has just started a job has no experience, then wins a Nobel Prize – it is a kin to running a 100 yard dash and winning after running only 10 yards. How do you explain drug laws to your children, – most politicians actors, athletes take or have used illegal drug but if you do my darlings its against the law!

To the point how does one explain that they have invested in one of the largest companies in the world – a safe bet – and it goes bankrupt!  My daughters look at me with frustration.  Is dad really all together?

Dad, Mr. “X”, our neighbor, has just made millions of dollars; he bought shares of a penny stock – stock X that has the rights to explore some land in Northern Canada.  He sold the stock at 500 times his investment Daddy, Mr.”X” is rich, you are not.

Well there 3 explanations come to mind –

 (1)       Stock X is controlled by criminals;

(2)       Stock X was lucky and it so happened that it found “Eldorado”. (the proverbial needle in the haystack is easier to find;)

(3)       Or Stock X has a solid foundation, good management, and a good marketing team.

So I must explain to my daughters that the chances that company X discovered the biggest gold reserve on the planet is highly unlikely – or as likely as me taking Angelina Jolie on a midnight cruise.  I must explain to them that perhaps there was a little manipulation going on, payoffs, insider trading, which begs the question was Mr.”X” involved, or dare I say it aware of contraband marketing techniques.

Well, is their hope? Certainly no one will buy a stock if they don’t know about it.  No one should buy a stock if it has no real asset, no solid management and not a good marketing plan.

So what am I saying – I told my daughters that if the fundamentals are in place – perhaps investment into the world of Penny Stocks is a wise move.  After all did I really check to see if real fundamentals were in place before I bought General Motors?

So in a way my discussion with my daughters caused me to reflect – if I had listened to my own advice I would not have bought the Cadillac but would have been satisfied with a smaller investment in a foreign vehicle, say Mr. “X”‘s stock.

Well all is said and done – I don’t like Mr. “X”.

Children,Guns, Computers, and ME

kidgun2

Would you give your 12 year old child a gun to play with?  Obviously the answer
is No.  He or she is inexperienced and has no idea how to use it,
or what it’s for.

Accordingly should your 12 year old child give you a computer and access to the
internet – The answer No – because you are inexperienced and have
no idea how to use it or what its for!

What am I saying – the majority of Penny Stocks investors now rely on computers
and the internet to gather information prior to investing in stocks and in
particular Penny-Stocks.

The overage computer illiterate sees junk emails, does searches, reads blogs is
a party to social networking sites but seldom seems to understand that a lot of
internet marketing campaigns are merely carefully crafted marketing schemes.

Why all of a sudden does company “A” appear at the top of every search engine
when it has just laid claim to a patch of desert in Australia or moose pasture
in the North West Territories.  Even though the share price of stock “A” is
hovering around a cent, with hundreds of millions of shares out, has little or
no management mining experience and no money in the Bank – it is being touted as
a real buy, a score, a mover, a sure thing.

Our 10 year olds may suggest that we search the internet and look at the
company’s filings, their recent signings of marketing contracts, examine their
website, research their principals PRIOR TO going ahead and
investing.

The internet is a weapon and can be used as a tool for success but if used
incorrectly can fire a bullet right through the head of a naïve investor.

Penny Stocks are touted every day on the internet – there’s a reason – they need
volume and sales.  My advice use the internet to your advantage, search
beyond the superficial dirt that has inundated your computer screen.

-
            Look at the Company web-site

-
Look at Regulatory filings

-
Look at the history and experience of management

-
And definitely speak to a an advisor – lawyer, accountant and
broker.

The next time you look at your computer – look beyond the script – do some
diligence then buy or don’t buy.

Then when your children have confidence in you- perhaps they will let you have
your own computer some day.

THE “TARR” PRINCIPAL

October 16, 2009 beststockreports 3 comments

The used car

www.wallst24.com

THE “TARR” PRINCIPAL

When we look at buying a used car we have many many so called “reputable” car dealers to choose from.

I guess its like choosing a lawyer there is only one student that graduates at the top of his or her class – in the same way there are good car dealers, reputable car dealers, excellent car dealers – and horrific car dealers. Now who would you rather go to?
Investing in Penny Stocks is a dangerous game – is it a universally accepted form of gambling, like choosing a used car dealers – or may I suggest – ULK! and attorney.
Why? There is a machinery existing which makes unthinkable amounts of money promoting stocks – brokers, market makers, promoters, blogs, social networking sites, media – print, phone, television, phone rooms, chat rooms etc. etc. etc. the “information providers” and by now I think you get the idea. Too much information from too many sources promising too many good things.
So how should one invest in penny stocks well I call it the TARR programmer.
Before making a decision to invest in a particular penny stock follow the TARR rules:
(1) Track Record
Does the particular promoter or information disseminator have a track record which is positive?
This is easy to find out – just look at the company’s performance record in its “Picks” over last few months.
(2) Advisors
Before taking a high risk jump off the 10 meter board into the pool of penny stocks – get some professional advise from your accountant, or lawyer, or financial planner. Tell them what you want to buy and ask them to determine in their particular opinion is it worth investing into a particular Penny stock.
(3) Research
Before buying a particular penny stock ask your advisers or “information provider” to give you some information on the particular company’s stock you wish to buy. If there is no information available – DON’T BUY. If there is information – READ IT, then make a decision.
(4) Reputation

Is the reputation of the information provider good or excellent?  If it is anything that at all seems inferior don’t buy – the penny stocks are a high risk game.

So TARR – if all indications are right – hire the lawyer, buy the used car or buy the penny stock – But this is 2009 so even if every indicator is positive, circumstances beyond yours or anyone elses, control may hurt your investment.

TARR, it’s not a face cream, or a topping for a road, it’s a check list which in the end may save you from losing, or hopefully help you, win in the penny stock market!
