Sailing the Sea of Cortez Or – “Be Prepared”

www.wallstpick.com

There we were, sailing the waters of Mexico, on a mission to leave life behind.  We had dropped anchor in La Paz, and loaded up on essential supplies for the next leg of our trip, north to places where computers and the internet were mere folklore.

After making the essential supply run, cases of beer, tequila, avocados and a few whisky chasers we were off.  One of our compatriots, brought along a radio-phone-just in case we had an emergency.  I pondered whether if it was possible to have tequila delivered?

As we sailed away, or rather consumed our way up the passage we entertained ourselves by listening to old World War I songs, reading a few books, and occasionally looking at the newspapers which protected our tequila from meeting an untimely demise.

While opening another batch of tequila from our cache, I couldn’t help but notice that it had been wrapped in the business section of a well known newspaper.  In my alcohol induced state I started to look at some of the stock quotations.

My eyes locked on one in particular, one I had paid pennies for, but was now hovering around $6.  I screamed – I was rich!! But all of a sudden my euphoria turned to horror – I must sell – but no internet, no cell phone!!

From the deck my drunken sea-mate yelled “Try the radio-phone”.  I called my broker, sold the stock, and continued to drink.

The moral of this story.  Keep informed.  A shareholder has a responsibility to himself to make constant inquiries about his investment.

One never knows, one could be at sea, and an investment could take a run.  So as the Boy Scouts say, always “Be Prepared”
